Baghdad moves toward a state-weapons bill
The prime minister asked parliament’s security committee to draft legislation restricting arms possession to state institutions.
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed the parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to prepare a constitutional draft law limiting weapons to the state. His office described uncontrolled arms as a threat to the rule of law and security institutions; the proposal would still require the legislative process to advance.
