Iraq moves toward draft law to place all weapons under state control
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed a parliamentary security committee to prepare legislation aimed at restricting weapons to state institutions.
Zaidi’s office said the proposed law would be framed within constitutional rules and is intended to strengthen the authority of security institutions. The move comes amid renewed concern over armed factions and regional escalation; the parliamentary Security and Defense Committee said it would support measures to reinforce the armed forces and border security.
